What to expect -
At your first consultation, a case history will be taken of your symptoms and onset, as well as prior medical information including lifestyle, diet and any pre-existing medical conditions.
Osteopaths consider and treat the body as a whole, so a full examination including postural assessment and palpation will be carried out. This will include some simple movements both active (by the patient) and passive (by the practitioner) to ascertain how the area of pain and associated areas are functioning. In certain circumstances, it may be advisable to seek further medical investigation (MRI, X-Ray, blood test etc), but this will be discussed with you and your Osteopath will refer you to your GP with your permission.
What to wear -
It is advised to be treated in comfortable clothing such as shorts, vests/t-shirt or underwear, so that the area of pain can be assessed, examined and treated effectively. Towels in the clinic are freely available, but should you have any further questions, do not hesitate to get in touch.
